One of the things that we love most at resorts is the food. In fact, we need the food to not just be available but be great as well. After all, F&B is what really makes or breaks a hotel. So when we visited So Sofitel Hua Hin earlier this year, we had no idea how good the food would be. Other than relaxing, swimming and partying at the Beach Party, we basically spent the entire weekend eating and drinking at So Sofitel Hua Hin.
Are you ready to drool? Because your eyes (and stomachs) are in for a feast.
Dinner – Beach Society
We arrived a little late in the afternoon so we missed our opportunity to have lunch. Instead we checked in, got freshened up, had a few drinks at the bar and then finally went for dinner.
Our dinner was at the beach society club. It’s also where the resort has their brunches, barbecues and beach parties.
Everything that we ordered was appetizing but the Larb Talay Pizza (seafood pizza, which we normally do not like) and the Orzo Tom Kha in particular were sublime. They were not only flavorful but also the fusion aspect of the dishes were fresh and innovative.
For dessert we had what they called the Chocolate Slap – dark and white chocolate ice cream with cookie bits, brownie chunks and gooey cocoa suace. We could never say no this one. It’s was just so good. Chocolate heaven to be exact.
What really caught our attention though was the cro-nut, however! A confused croissant doughnut with raspberry ice cream on top. We really had to stop ourselves from eating all of this food.
We apologize for the quality of these photos. We had a slight malfunction with the night mode of the camera.
Breakfast – White Oven
Next morning we started the day early with a nice spread of breakfast buffet. Oh and did we eat like a King and Queen. Our version of Breakfast of Champions.
They had a delightful range of healthy snacks and drinks. We had the detox and energy juices.
Of course there were fruits and juices as well. Usually I pass on these but Kanika loves them. I prefer to go to the savory stuff.
Now on to the main breakfast dishes – the savory stuff. Just what I like. We ordered two kinds of eggs from the live station. First was a Spanish-style fried egg and the other an eggs Benedict. Both were absolutely delicious.
Of course since we have lived in Thailand for so many years, we had to try some Asian breakfast too. This is basically what you would eat for lunch or dinner as well. Here we tried some fried rice, chicken with basil leaves, stir fry vegetables, another chicken dish and some sausages.
Lunch – White Oven
After walking off and working out our breakfast, we returned to the White Oven restaurant for lunch.
This was quite possibly our most favorite meal of the trip. It was a splendid course of Thai dishes with a sort of fusion twist, not so much in flavor but in presentation. You could definitely taste and experience the authenticity in each dish. Just thinking back to this makes me so hungry and the mouth water.
This crispy soft shell crab with green mango and chili salad was to die for. If I did not have anything else but this, I’d be more than satisfied. If you’re not a fan of seafood, then keep on reading.
Curries are a must when you are in Thailand. One of the most popular is the Massaman and White Oven did justice to this one. They did play with it a bit however. The leg piece was soft and tender while the curry was extremely flavorful. We could eat this everyday. That spicy tang masked by the sweetness of the coconut milk makes this dish one of the favorites.
Other dishes we tried were the Thai-style omelette with minced meat stuffing, fried morning glory and seared scallops. The scallops were interesting because it was made in a Miang Kham style, which is a traditional Thai snack. Normally scallops are not used in such a dish.
Finally, a traditional Thai dessert – ruby chestnuts in Coconut Milk. Very tasty and sweet but luckily you can control the sweetness level by pouring the appropriate amount of sugar syrup and coconut milk.
Sunday Brunch Club – Beach Society
On the last day, an indulgent brunch was set up for us. We skipped breakfast because we wanted to save our appetite for this.
Some of the dishes were the same that we had tried at dinner on the first night, namely the Seafood pizza and the Orzo Tom Kha. Other dishes in the spread were THREE types of salads, crispy curly fries, fried calamari, a beef burger and salmon Florentine.
Among the salads there was the Caesar salad, seafood mango salad (our absolute favorite), and the royal project salad with a lemon vinaigrette.
Other than the food, what makes the Sunday brunch so great is the vibe. Imagine a sunny day with beer, good food and lounge music. Yes, they even had a DJ spinning on the side. We didn’t want to leave and wished we could stay a few more hours, if not another day.
Here is a sound clip from the brunch to give you an idea of the vibe at Beach Society on a Sunday afternoon.
Tip: if you book the brunch in advance, you can opt for late checkout (latest 4 pm)! That is pretty cool. Oh and the food is all you can eat at just 590 THB net. A great deal if you ask us. We really did get lost and had our full eating and drinking at So Sofitel Hua Hin.
