If you haven’t heard about Resorts World Genting, it probably because it was formerly known as Genting Highlands. If you still don’t know about this place, then our Resorts World Genting food and attraction series is just for you.

In this post, it is going to be all about food. While RW Genting is known for hospitality and its legendary theme park (which is currently being renovated into something very, very cool), it is also a foodie paradise. With the opening of SkyAvenue mall, there are so many food outlets now open serving up a huge variety of cuisines. Cafes, restaurants and bars – you name it.
Here are just some of the Resorts World Genting food outlets we tried over two days.
Oh and we had so much food.
Malaysian Street Food
If you don’t have time for anything and you want a complete taste of Malaysian food, this is the perfect place to be. The Malaysian Street Food court highlights different flavors and cuisines from 5 different parts of Malaysia – Kuching, Malacca, Ipoh & Penang, Little India and Petaling Street. This is truly where the multicultural facet of Malaysia shines through a literal melting pot of food.
When you enter, you get a cash card which you can spend at your leisure at any and all restaurants. It’s easy to be lost and confused as to what to eat here since there are over 20 vendors.
To fully experience all the tastes you can do 1 of 2 things (or both).
- Try different dishes or cuisines across lunch and dinner. You can even spread them over a few days if you are at Resorts World Genting for that long.
- Go with several friends, order as many dishes as possible and share. That is what we did and therefore got to try everything.
These dishes are just a slice of what we actually had. There were probably a dozen more, enough to feed us for days!
Here are some of the dishes we tried and highly recommend if you’re unsure where to start.
Straight off, our eyes went to the ‘Thali’ of Indian-Malay food
It was a platter with a mixture of vegetables, chicken and curry with rice. There was even a Papadum. This was intensely delicious with lots of spices and flavor. Makes us drool to think of it again.
Of course we tried the iconic Nasi Lemak.
Who can come to Malaysia and not have this famous dish? The combination of fragrant coconut-infused rice and the spicy sambal makes this a mighty meal that can be eaten any time of the day. The fried chicken, peanuts, anchovies and other ingredients are just the proverbial icing to the cake.
There is no way right way or wrong way to make this dish. There are many variations.
Next up is a Curry Laksa.
This is another very popular dish, not just in Malaysia but also Singapore and Indonesia.
It consists of noodles or vermicelli cooked with meat or seafood in a spicy soup made up of a thick broth and coconut milk. The type of broth and spices can make or break this dish. Lucky for us, it was just the right amount of spice, sweet and sourness. We couldn’t stop slurping on the soup and noodles.
Fish Head Curry
Fish head curry was another dish that really caught our attention. The fish was succulent and while the flavor was sensational as it was consistent with authentic Malay cuisine. Like other dishes it was a blend of spicy and sour with a hint of sweetness from the coconut milk.
Burger & lobsters
Hmmm, burger and lobsters. What an interesting combination to say the least. Who would have thought those two would pair so well together. Usually when we think of burgers, we hardly ever associate it with seafood let alone a giant crustacean that almost looks like an alien.
OK, yea that Filet O Fish at McDonalds doesn’t count.
But we love seafood and who doesn’t love burgers. Actually, we know quite a few who don’t like either – shame on you. Jk!
Before even entering the restaurant, we were quite excited. We had a feeling it was going to be great. It had to be knowing it is a chain restaurant with over 20 outlets around the world and the first in South East Asia.
Anybody else loving the vibe of this restaurant? The dim lights and red seats make the place quite moody and dramatic. Sets the tone for families, couples and friends alike.
The Menu
Burger & lobsters is exactly what it sounds like – a restaurant that serves only burgers and lobsters. It is kind of like a ‘Surf n Turf’ – steaks and seafood for those who don’t know.
On the menu there are only 3 items – burgers, lobsters and lobster rolls. Sometimes it’s good to have limited options because a) you don’t have to think for 10 minutes what to order and b) you know the restaurant has expertise in that cuisine.
If you like variety, don’t be disheartened. Each item is cooked and served in slightly different variations or flavors.
The burger only comes in beef and two sizes – original (224g) or the Mayfair (168g).
For those who don’t know if they want a burger or a lobster, the B&L burger is the perfect dish to order. A charcoal burger bun engulfs a beef patty combined with chunks of lobster meat topped with lettuce and tarragon/truffle sauce. A burger that combines beef and lobster in one really fascinated us but unfortunately we didn’t get to try it.
More on why later.
The lobster, which comes fresh from Nova Scotia also has 3 signature styles – the original, chili and the big boy. The big boy is basically a very large lobster, usually between 2-4 kg and is charged by the weight. The price varies so you have to ask the staff. You can have it steamed or grilled to your liking.
One of the more popular items at the restaurant is the Lobster roll, which features chunks of lobster with vegetables and secret sauce in a bread roll. You can choose between the original, chili and seven samurai (seven sauces).
Licking our fingers
We had the original burger, chili lobster and the seven samurai lobster roll. Each dish was truly unique and unequivocally delicious. We were literally licking our fingers after every bite to make sure we never missed a taste.
The burger was extremely juicy. Obviously we got the beef cooked to medium, a lesson I learned after always ordering well done and regretting it each time.
The lobster was cooked to perfection. It was neither too soft nor tough – just right. We’re sure if you never tried or liked lobster, this is the place to start.
The Chili Lobster is a must try at this branch because none of the other chains/outlets serve it. Only in Malaysia! Malaysian food is known for its spicy, sour and sweet taste, which was exactly what the flavor of this dish is like.
We didn’t have the B&L burger because we had to try the lobster on its own anyways. We didn’t want to over indulge on lobster, if there is such a thing. I did however took a piece of lobster meat from the Chili lobster and placed it in the burger. Just to get the feel of it. It was good!
The concept of burgers and lobster combination is surely quite unexpected but compliment each other quite well. Who knows, maybe lobster might be the new bacon when it comes to burgers and sandwiches.
Motorino
Right around the corner of Burger & Lobsters is Motorino, another chain outlet restaurant but serves some of the most delicious Neapolitan pizzas. Honestly, we’ve had our fair share of pizzas and these definitely take the cheesy bite. The pizzas are soft, chewy and hot. The slices are thin and have a good ratio of cheese, crust and toppings.
We each had over 4 or 5 slices and didn’t make us feel sick or bloated. Our favorite ones were Pepperoni and Amatriciana, which has a topping of minced chicken and fresh chilies.
If you don’t like waiting for your food, you can actually watch the chefs prepare your pizza through an open kitchen. You can witness the entire process from the dough-making to the application of sauce and toppings to finally the actual cooking of the pizza. In goes the pizza in a large wood-fire oven burning at 800-900 degrees Fahrenheit. Voila, your pizza is ready in a few minutes.
Cloud 9
Resorts World Genting also has nightlife and a few bars. Some of them are only accessible to member guests. However, we found Cloud 9 located at the lower lobby level of the Genting Grand Hotel (close to McDonalds and the arcade). This is the probably best nightlife bar at Resorts World Genting.
They serve many traditional cocktails, beer, spirits, wine and even have a selection of signature cocktails. There is a lounge room for chilling and socializing and a live band section for a more upbeat experience.
We had a great time two nights in a row at Cloud 9 where we enjoyed a few drinks, listened to some good music and made memorable conversations.
SkyAvenue at RW Genting has transformed and transcended beyond just a place to eat. It is an experience of the five senses. It is a journey of culture, cuisine and entertainment.
Stay tuned as we bring you the next post in the series – 5 exciting things that are happening at Resorts World Genting. In the meantime, let us know what dishes and food outlets did you like, try or want to try.

Disclaimer: we were invited by Resorts World Genting to try out all these different outlets at Sky Avenue. We visited Cloud 9 of our own choosing and leisure. As always all opinions are our own and honest.
Looks like u were in foodie heaven too – Sadly, I could not try Motorino – Would love to go back 🙂
I adore Laksa ! It’s something I make sure I eat when I’m in Singapore ( not been to Malaysia yet ) but that burger looked insane !
Oh you have to go Malaysia and try their food.
