We’re not ones to get massages and spas when we travel. In fact it would be the last thing in our mind. We never found the need to have a spa experience because for one we (mainly Shayan) like being on the move constantly. We prefer adventures, exploring and interacting with our environment. Even when we stay at luxurious resorts, the most relaxing thing we will do is chill by the pool and sip on cocktails.
When we recently went to So Sofitel Hua Hin, our outlook on spas changed completely. We were offered a complimentary half hour of massage and spa each. Since we didn’t have anything else to do so thought why not try it at least once.
A Zen Feeling
As soon as we entered the Spa, there was a feeling of peace and tranquility. We were met with smiling faces and calming voices of the staff. The interior design, music and scents all played a role in creating a zen-like experience. Every sensory aspect of the spa was soothing.
We were asked which aroma oil we wanted to use for our oil massage. We insisted that they recommend the best one for us. Shayan got the fit body, which has scents of cinnamon and grapefruit. Kanika received the inner reset, which has hints of lemongrass and orange.
The Spa Experience
After taking our clothes off and getting into the spa robes, we were taken to the couple’s massage room. The lights were dimmed soon after and we were ready for our spa experience.
I think the main reason we’ve never gotten a massage or a spa is because we are not so comfortable with strangers touching us like that. The foot massage especially is difficult for us because we are very ticklish at our feet. As soon as the lady began cleaning them, we began giggling.
After the foot rub, we were asked to remove our robe and get under the sheets on the bed. Again, very uncomfortable. We kept our underwear on though.
We had no idea we had that much tension in our body and mind. The masseuse started finding every knot in our muscles. They did a very good job at removing the joint and muscle pains in our back and neck. As I sit here at desk, thinking about it right now, I feel like getting another one.
We really felt that we went in as a cocoon of stress and anxiety but came out free and relaxed like a butterfly. Interestingly, that is exactly what So Spa is going for. If you’ve seen the brand logo, it is a butterfly. They want you to feel like a butterfly throughout the stay. They were definitely able to deliver on that promise with the spa.
Overall, it was an amazing and soul-lifting experience. One that we would gladly do again because we all should take care of our body, mind and soul. Working it out too much all the time isn’t good and relaxation is necessary.
How can you not like spas? I love spas. Good, at least you tried it once.
