Model Market? Upcycle? An oasis? What is all this mumbo-jumbo and string of buzz words? Just like you, we were wondering the same thing when we were invited to the media event and official launch.
First things first. Model Market isn’t a market for models or anything like that. It’s actually open for interpretation. The entire concept of Bangkok’s brand new food, beverage, and entertainment urban space is that everything is recycled or reused. Their aim is to promote sustainability by eliminating single-use plastic and minimizing negative environmental impact through upcycling.
Upcycling: also known as creative reuse by converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.
Drinks-a-Buzz
We love to drink but sometimes bars and clubs can get too much. Model Market makes for a great place to do that while chilling with best friends.
Sponsored by Jameson, there is plenty of Whiskey sodas to go around. Add some ginger ale or lime – oooh yea!
Too basic for you? Try some awesome signature cocktails by Tropic City. Pretty sure they will be rotating these around but if you get a chance, try the Tropicopop – Rum, coconut, lychee, lemon, and clarified goat milk. Yes, you read that right. It’s better than you can imagine.
If these drinks are too hard, then there is always beer. Where there is beer, you can expect to find Mikkeller, serving up some crafts from the tap and a few bottles. You’ll also find local craft beers by Bootleg Brothers.
For coffee-lovers, they have got your fix down too with Nitro Labs. Add a shot of Jameson Whiskey to make it Irish!
Food Scene
The founder of the Model Market explained that they plan to go cashless at this venue with top up cards that customers can use at any vendor.
For the moment, there is limited food offering. At least the time we went. However, whatever they did have on offer was delicious. More food trucks will soon be joining as the weeks or months go by.
First, we tried a Korean BBQ and buffet joint that we do not remember the name of. Their spicy, glazed BBQ chicken was amazing. We didn’t try much else though.
After having a few drinks, we tried a variety of pizza from Peppina and a delicious slow roasted duck from Meng Kee Hong Kong Roast.
It will be exciting to see what other food vendors they bring in. I’m expecting lots of food trucks serving up burgers, wings, noodles and more.
Vibe
Other than the food and drinks, there is also an award-winning shop in the midst of the Market. ReMaker is a Thai brand that makes leather goods such as jackets, bags, and shoes from leather waste.
All of this and the entire concept makes Model Market an interesting place to be. While you chill with friends and drink or eat, you can also enjoy music from DJs and live bands.
It’s a refreshing change from the nightlife of Bangkok that is funky, chic and responsible balled up into one. We’re definitely going to go back.
