If you need to know anything about me and Shayan, it’s that we are not coffee addicts. *GASP* *SHOCK*
How can you be travel/lifestyle bloggers and not love coffee?
Bare with us for a second. It’s not like we don’t like coffee, it’s just we’re more of a tea (myself) and dark chocolate drink (Shayan) fans.
However, this was all about to change after our visit to Kaizen Coffee Co. This place has only been opened for about 7 months, following Bangkok’s craze for coffee shops and cafes. I mean seriously, they’re all over the city!
So what made us try this place out? Well, Kaizen first popped up in our Facebook (or was it Instagram?) newsfeed and we were mesmerised by the photos – from the ambiance and cafe design to the drinks and food.
We’re total suckers for white decor and elegant designs so we had to go give it a try.
Tucked away deep within Ekkamai road, between Sois 26 and 28, Kaizen is a bit challenging to find. Especially if you’re driving like we were but the best thing to do is look for Tai Ping Tower on your Google Map. It’s in that compound with several other Japanese restaurants and cafes.
When we reached, we got more than we bargained for but in the best way possible. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted by extremely friendly Thai and foreigner staff. The cafe was empty so we took our time to choose our seating as the staff brought us the menu.
They asked us if we were here for coffee or food.
We replied, “both!”
At first, we were skeptical to [even] give their coffee a try, so we ordered a pair of Iced Chocolate and a Milo Mountain. Spot on guys! These were the most delicious and mouth watering chocolate drinks we’ve ever had.
The Milo Mountain brought back childhood memories when I was forced to drink milk, and the only way I could get it down was with piling it up with Milo. This is exactly what the drink was – milk with overflowing Milo powder and submerged dark chocolate ice-cream. Divine!
We then ordered our (late) breakfast. First came the Breakfast Burger, which was complete with fried egg, bacon and cheese. Then came a mouth-watering Spicy Pork Sandwich, which was basically inspired from a local favorite dish – minced pork Krapao (basil leaves). This was an absolute favorite and a must-try if you ever visit.
The pork sandwich was so good, we actually forgot to take a picture of it!
After taking some photos of the cafe, including the 2nd floor that was hosting some kind of art exhibition, the owner came to us and suggested that we try one of their signature coffee drink. Shayan explained that he wasn’t much of a coffee fan because it left a bitter taste to which they replied, “oh not here, you have to try it”.
Soon after, they kindly brought us a complimentary drink. This is called Blond Mocha and it truly was a game changer. Frothy with a perfect blend of sweet and bitterness. It was sublime. I’m not sure how else to explain it but for those who aren’t big on coffee, this is sure to ease you in to the whole craze.
Kaizen has definitely made itself into our hearts and opened a door for the love of Coffee. Now we know what all the fuss is about.
