Cholos Bkk

I love Mexican food and Bangkok is packed with restaurants that serve pretty delicious Mexican delicacies. Most are you general Tex-Mex style eateries but there are some authentic ones too. However, when it comes to some of the best tacos in Bangkok, there is one that stands above all.

And that is Cholos Bkk, a Mexican food truck that specializes in Birria tacos.

I kept seeing posts of Cholos Bkk across social media from some of friends so I decided to give it a try. My fellow blogger friends Chris and James joined me to see what all the fuss was about.

Humble location

The first thing that is unique about Cholos Bkk is its location. Normally food trucks are located in entertainment zones or areas that are quite busy. Not these guys. This food truck is hidden away within the grounds of Bangkapi Mansion condominium, deep inside Sukhumvit soi 12.

There is a small covered seating area to dine at or you can take it away. I recommend eating here as the food is best when hot and fresh. The dining area is quaint and has a homely, garden-like vibe. But really, you are here for the food…and the frozen margaritas.

Tacos and more

The menu at Cholos Bkk is a bit limited but that is good news. That generally means they specialize in something and they do it well. This food truck is known for its Birria tacos and my personal favorite, the fish taco.

We got to try 4 types of tacos at Cholos – fish, chicken, pork Birria and mushroom tostadas.

While they were all super yummy and flavorful, fish taco is the best. The blend of that crispy yet soft fish balances really well with the tangy and spicy sauce. I defined it as a tropical flavor, which Chris agreed was the best description for it. It’s just perfect for any occasion or time.

Their chicken Tinga quesadilla is also outstanding. It was spicy, juicy and tangy. Goes really well with the dipping sauce.

I am not the biggest fan of burritos, but at Cholos Bkk, I have to say, they were really good. Crispy on the outside and soft from inside with all that cheese and meaty goodness.
