Were you ever in Bangkok and wanted to try some of the popular things but just weren’t sure. Maybe it was the price. Maybe you didn’t have the right access. Well now, with the Bangkok Tourist Card, you may not have that problem anymore.
Bangkok Tourist Card gives you exclusive access and discounts to dozens of popular attractions and activities in Bangkok city. Some are quite touristic while others are unique and gives you a chance to interact with the local and expat community.
We got a chance to try out the card and we’re in love with it. Even though we are not tourists, we still like some of the activities and attractions that they have partnered with.
Now to make the most use of it, save a good deal of money and get the best value from the card, we’ve come up with a short guide. It’s up to you if you want to follow it exactly or take some tips to tailor your own experience.
How it works
First, let’s get this out of the way. It is quite simple, actually.
Step 1: Buy the card (it’s only 250 Baht) online. You will receive an email after with your activation code and other details.
Step 2: active the card with your code by plugging it in the app (iOS & Android) or online.
Step 3: once activated, simply choose among the partnered activity or attractions on the website, make reservations, show the QR card on the app to the vendor and receive your discount.
Step 4: Enjoy your experience. Easy-peasy.
Important things to know
- once activated, the card is valid for 5 days only
- the card can be used limitlessly within the 5 days so you can actually try out every single partnering attraction or activity on the website (if you have the time)
- for some activities and attractions, advanced reservations are required – it is best to check any and all T&C before making plans
- we recommend not activating the card until you know exactly what you are going to do – which is why we made this post to help you
So now you are about to activate your card. You have 5 days. What are you going to do? Follow our guide (feel free to mix and match or create your own).
Day 1
We’re going to make Day 1 the busiest. You can divide this amongst the other days but since these activities are all in or around MBK shopping mall, it’s best to group them together.
First, test your brain in the morning with Escape Room Bangkok where you have to put your wits together with your friends and solve a case to get out of a room.
Then, make your way to Thai Style Studio 1984 and transform yourself into a Thai royal or a warrior. Choose among 100s of traditional Thai costumes and props, get made up, and go through an entire photoshoot.
You can come alone, as a couple or in a group of up to 9.
The photos are then yours to keep and take home as awesome souvenirs for friends and family to see. This is one of BTC’s top attractions. The studio has been around for over 30 years.
Advanced bookings are required and the entire process takes about 1-2 hours, so make sure you plan ahead. Bangkok Tourist Cardholders get a 500 Baht discount from package B, which makes it 2000 Baht per person.
Day 2
Start the day by having lunch at Yung Siam Thai cuisine where you can get a 20-30% discount off from the total bill and enjoy delicious authentic Thai food.
Feel free to do whatever from now until evening but try to stay in the old town area of Bangkok. Maybe go temple-hopping. There are lots of temples here.
After you’re done, have dinner at Mo Chou Bar & Restaurant and get a 20% discount on Thai-Chinese fusion food and luxury cocktails. No minimum spending required.
After having dinner, make your way not too far from the restaurant and laugh off the calories at Khaosan Comedy Club. With BTC, you get 50 Baht off from entry ticket, a free drink, and a really fun 3 to 4-hour show.
Day 3
Start the day at one of the top-rated cooking class. At Hom Hostel & Cooking club you will learn how to cook traditional dishes at a rooftop kitchen in a very unique ambiance. BTC holders get 150 B off the regular 1500 B price. However, the experience is priceless.
To mix up the day, add in a bit of physical challenge by going to Flow House Bangkok. This is actually one of my favorite places to hang out in Bangkok as an adventurer and thrill-seeker (and there are not many other options).
Here you can surf in the middle of Bangkok! Yes, how about that!? Great way to spend the day in the city. BTC gives you a 10% discount.
If that sounds too daunting for you, then try the Puzzle Room Bangkok where you get 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles, open locks, and find hidden passages. It’s similar to escape room but not really. Exclusive 20% discount for BTC holders.
Day 4
We’re making day 4 a challenging and exciting one. Choose between (or all if you can) Go Karting at RCA, Wakeboarding at Zanook Wake Park or firing paintballs at Combatzone Seacon.
After you’re done, you probably want to just go back to your hotel or home to rest. Well, we say the night is still young. Next, we recommend going to see a Muay Thai fight.
Now, do this only if you have time but you should definitely try to fit it in one of the days because no trip to Thailand is complete without seeing a Muay Thai fight. The Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium is one of the most popular and revered among locals and tourists. Just make sure you plan and reserve tickets in advance as fights are only scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays and Sundays.
Trust me, being there is a lot different from watching it from a screen. The electricity and energy of the place are insane, even at half capacity. Also, the fights can get pretty intense with fighters even drawing blood from each other. So although not for the faint of heart, it is a worthwhile experience. With the Bangkok Tourist Card, you get an 18% discount on the entry ticket, making it even more worth it.
We honestly recommending doing just one or two of these and then capping the day off with a massage at Yin Yang the Original. You will definitely need it. You could even move it to the beginning of day 5.
Day 5
It’s the last day of the Bangkok Tourist Card challenge.
Oh wait, was it a challenge? I guess it is. How many can you tick off?
On this day, we say you take it easy. First, head down to the Gem and Jewelry Museum where you can learn about Thailand’s jewelry industry and heritage. With a 50% discount, you save 100 Baht.
After that make your way to the other side of Bangkok and experience being a pilot with the Flight Experience™ simulator. This sounds awesome and a really fun thing to do when you absolutely don’t know what to do. It’s perfect for families with kids.
With BTC, you get an amazing 30% discount too and end up saving 1000-3000+ Baht. It’s a fantastic deal.
If you have time, you can even check out the VR1 Virtual Reality Cafe nearby. 27% discount if you show your Bangkok Tourist Card.
What others say about BTC
I traveled with my friends in Bangkok 4 days. When we came to hostel, hostel owner told us about card. At first I was curious because I didn´t know any tourist card before, but I can say it´s very useful. We visited around 4 attractions and we saved a lot of bahts 😀
